Skin resurfacing relies on the use of a CO2 fractional laser system. The laser used at our practice applies concentrated CO2 energy to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin that make up the support structure in our skin. During a breakout our skin goes into extreme repair mode, attempting to reduce inflammation and kill bacteria. Unfortunately, this leads to the appearance of bumps and unsightly patches. HOW DOES CO2 LASER SKIN RESURFACING WORK?
CO2 laser treatments rely on laser light technology to treat skin issues. During a treatment session, electricity runs through a gas-filled tube to produce a specific wavelength of light. The light is emitted from the laser device in short, concentrated beams. These beams target water molecules and vaporize damaged skin cells. The laser removes surface cells of the epidermis, making way for fresh, clear new skin.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY SESSION?
The CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing treatment performed at our practice is an outpatient procedure, meaning there is no overnight stay. Trillium Medical Aesthetics & Gynecology may treat individual wrinkles around your eyes, mouth, or forehead or treat your entire face in the case of acne scarring. For small and sensitive areas, we can provide local anesthetic. The actual treatment procedure typically takes about 30-45 minutes. In some cases, a full-face treatment may take up to two hours.
WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT FROM CO2 LASER SKIN RESURFACING?
Unlike surgery, this treatment does not result in any necessary downtime. However, you can experience some redness, irritation, and swelling for up to 24 hours after your visit. Because our laser system stimulates collagen production, you can experience a gradual improvement in the texture and appearance of your skin. In some cases, several sessions may be necessary to get the best results.
HOW MANY CO2 LASER SKIN RESURFACING TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Most patients only need one CO2 treatment to see results; However, some patients with deeper wrinkles or scarring may need multiple treatments to see results.

Through his practice at Trillium Medical Aesthetics & Gynecology in Gulfport, Mississippi, Dr. McKay is honored to play a role in improving the health and wellness of women of all ages. Education has always been a central component of Dr. McKay’s life. He began his studies at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. From there, he went on to earn his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport. Dr. McKay refined his skills through an internship at LSU Medical Center and a residency at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. He also earned board certification in obstetrics and gynecology.
